Cost Per Booked Call

Cost per booked call is the ad spend divided by the number of sales calls booked from it. For high-ticket offers sold on a call, it's the cost metric that predicts revenue, unlike cost per lead.

Why use cost per booked call instead of cost per lead?

Because a lead is a form fill and a booked call is a step toward a sale. A campaign can halve your cost per lead by attracting people who never book, and your revenue goes down while the dashboard looks better. When the buying event is a sales call, the call is the number to buy.

What does a booked call cost?

It depends on the offer, the market and the funnel, but here's what it cost in the accounts behind my case studies:

Account Ad spend Booked calls Cost per booked call
Brand-new agency offer $35,076 129 $271.91
PR firm $47,627 178 About $268
Agency selling to ecommerce brands $59,100 243 $243.21
High-ticket B2B SaaS $35,627 93 $383.09

How do you know if your cost per booked call is too high?

Work backwards from the sale. Multiply your show rate, call quality rate and close rate to get closes per booked call, then multiply by your average deal. At a 75% show rate, 73% call quality, a 34% close rate and a $7,000 deal, each booked call was worth about $1,300 in revenue, so $272 a call was cheap.

How do you manage it?

  • Commit at least $1,400 and 14 days before judging a new account, because a handful of calls is too small a sample.
  • Raise budget only while cost per booked call holds.
  • Let spend follow closer capacity: roughly 80 calls per closer per cycle.

FAQ

Is a $300 booked call expensive?

Not if a qualified call closes a few thousand dollars of revenue a third of the time. The price only means something next to your close rate and deal size.
