Speed to Lead

Speed to lead is the time between a prospect booking or opting in and the first human contact from your team. In high-ticket call funnels I aim for 3 to 5 minutes after the booking.

Why does speed to lead matter so much?

Because a prospect's intent is highest in the minutes right after they book. A cold prospect met you recently. If they book and then hear nothing for days, they forget why they booked and the call quietly turns into a no-show. A human reaching out within minutes catches them while they're still thinking about your offer.

Speed matters even more with low-effort lead sources. With Meta instant forms, the form opens with the prospect's details already filled in, so they never type anything. There's a 95% chance they won't remember filling it out when your setter calls them. The longer you wait, the worse that gets.

What's a good speed to lead?

Touch Timing I use
Confirmation email and pre-call sequence A minute or two after booking
Setter text, then call from the same number Within 3 to 5 minutes of booking
Closer selfie video naming their application answers Same day
Reminder and reframe of the call Day two
Final confirmation Day of the call

The setter call within 3 to 5 minutes is the one most businesses skip. Texting first and then calling from the same number makes the call far more likely to be picked up, because the phone now recognizes who's calling.

What does fast follow-up change in the numbers?

In the funnels I build, a setter calls within 5 minutes of every booking as part of the pre-call sequence. One high-ticket SaaS account completed 91% of its booked calls and a PR firm completed 92%, against my benchmark of 80%. The pre-call sequence as a whole, with that setter call as one of its parts, has raised show rates by up to 34% in my accounts.

How do you improve speed to lead?

Give one person ownership of it, usually an appointment setter, and make the first touch their top priority over everything else in their day. If you're the founder and still closing your own calls, it's hard to hit 3 to 5 minutes while you're on back-to-back calls, which is one of the clearest signs it's time to split setting from closing.

FAQ

Can automation handle speed to lead?

Automation handles the confirmation email and SMS reminders, and those should go out within a minute or two. But the first human call is what makes a cold prospect feel committed to showing up, and no automated message replaces it.

Does speed to lead matter if my application already qualifies people?

Yes. The application decides who books. Speed to lead decides whether the people who booked actually show up, which is a different number.
