Sales Cycle

A sales cycle is the time from a prospect's first contact with your business to a signed deal, including every call and follow-up in between.

Why do sales cycles drag?

In B2B, for two reasons. First, the call structure doesn't match the deal size, like pitching a large deal in one call or splitting a small one across several. Second, nothing happens between meetings: a multi-call process typically leaves 10 to 14 days between calls, and in that gap your competitors, the prospect's other vendors and their own priorities keep fighting for the attention you just had.

How short can a paid funnel make it?

For a high-ticket offer sold on one call, I aim to compress the decision window to 48 to 72 hours from booking. The prospect clicks an ad, watches the VSL, applies, books, and goes through a pre-call sequence of email, SMS, a setter call and retargeting content before the call. Webinar funnels run longer: registration, event, booking and follow-up form a 7, 14 or even 21-day loop.

How do you shorten it?

Three levers, in order of impact:

  1. Sales process: one call for roughly $2,000 to $5,000 packages, multiple calls for $5,000 and up.
  2. Pre-call and post-call nurturing: content and assets that keep answering questions between meetings, so nobody else controls the story while you wait.
  3. Social media authority: the prospect checks you out between calls. LinkedIn is the strongest platform for B2B, with Instagram and X close behind.

FAQ

Does a shorter sales cycle mean a lower close rate?

Not if the education happens before the call. A prospect who arrives informed can decide faster, which is why the pre-call sequence matters more than the length of the process.
