Video Sales Letter

A video sales letter (VSL) is a short sales video on a landing page that explains the problem, your mechanism and your offer, then asks qualified viewers to apply or book a sales call.

What does a VSL do in a high-ticket funnel?

It does the qualifying and educating your best closer would otherwise do live, except it works around the clock and scales the moment you raise the ad budget. The prospect arrives at the sales call already knowing what you do and why it works, so the call is spent selling instead of explaining.

How long should a VSL be?

For a high-ticket offer sold on a call, I build them at 6 to 8 minutes. That's long enough to explain the mechanism and the offer, and short enough that cold traffic finishes it. The VSL gives away everything except the implementation, which is what the sales call sells.

What does a VSL funnel produce?

At typical rates, 1,000 cold clicks into a VSL funnel produce:

Stage Volume Rate
VSL views 350 35% of clicks
Applications 35 10% of viewers
Qualified bookings 21 60% of applicants
Calls held 17 80% show rate
Clients closed 5 to 6 33% close rate

On a brand-new agency offer, this build booked 129 calls at $271.91 each and made $168,000 from $35,076 in ad spend.

VSL or webinar?

A VSL is asynchronous: the prospect watches whenever they land, and you can book a call within minutes of the ad click. A webinar asks them to show up at a set time, which filters harder but loses most registrants. For most offers sold through a sales team, I default to the VSL.

FAQ

Do I need professional production for a VSL?

No. Clear structure and a believable mechanism matter far more than production value on cold traffic.
