Sales Closer
A sales closer is the person who runs the sales call with a qualified prospect and asks for the sale. In high-ticket funnels, closers usually earn commission on revenue collected.
What does a closer actually own?
The call itself: diagnosing the prospect's situation, presenting the offer, handling objections and asking for the sale. Everything before the call, from the ad to the application to the pre-call sequence, exists so the closer spends the call selling instead of explaining. A closer can't fix a funnel that sends unqualified people, which is why I track close rate on qualified calls only.
What close rate should a closer hit?
My benchmark is 30% on qualified calls for a closer who is competitive and knows the offer well. On a brand-new agency offer, the closer hit 33.8%. When a closer is well below that and show rate is fine, the call structure is usually the problem: one client of mine was closing 12%, and after we rebuilt the structure and the pitch deck together, it went to 35%.
How many calls can one closer take?
Roughly 80 calls per closer per cycle is the capacity I plan around. That's also how I decide when to scale ad spend: budget should follow closer capacity, because buying more calls than your team can take burns the leads you paid for.
How should closers be paid?
On commission, so they only earn when the client collects. In the partnerships I run, closers are commission-aligned and setters are funded from my side of the revenue share, which keeps everyone focused on calls that turn into revenue.
FAQ
Should the founder close?
At the start, often yes, because the founder knows the offer best. Once calls are coming in every week, handing them to closers is what lets the business grow past the founder's calendar.
