Conversions API
The Conversions API (CAPI) is Meta's server-side connection for sending conversion events from your CRM to Meta, so the algorithm optimizes toward the event you choose, such as a qualified booked call.
Why does the Conversions API matter for lead quality?
Because Meta finds more of whoever triggers the event you send it. Most accounts fire the lead event the instant someone submits a form, so Meta learns to find more people who submit forms, and it gets better at that every week. Leave it running and week four has worse leads than week one, while everybody blames the creative or the landing page.
The Conversions API lets you pick a better event. Instead of the form fill, you report the moment that actually predicts revenue for a business that sells on a call: a qualified booked call. You haven't changed the ads, only what Meta is told to chase.
Which event should you send through CAPI?
For a high-ticket call funnel, this is the setup I use:
- The application lands in your CRM with nothing firing. It gets scored against your qualification bar first.
- A qualified booked call fires the event. Only people who clear the bar and book get reported back to Meta.
- Optionally, go one step further. Wait until the sales call, move the people your closer marks as qualified into a pipeline stage in your CRM, and report those. That sharpens the learning even more.
The same idea works with a plain pixel on a small budget. A short application with a persona question and a financial question routes the "no" answers to a page that doesn't fire anything, so only people who match the offer teach the algorithm.
How many events does Meta need?
Roughly 15 to 30 of these events a week, so the algorithm has something to learn from. Below that, the better event starves the campaign and your costs go up.
| Your volume | What to report |
|---|---|
| 15 to 30 or more qualified booked calls a week | The qualified booked call, through CAPI |
| Far less, for example 20 leads a month in total | One stage earlier, while you qualify by hand |
Does CAPI matter more when you scale?
Yes, because scaling multiplies whatever the event is teaching. Raise the budget on an account that reports form fills and you pay Meta to find more form fillers, faster. Raise it on an account that reports qualified booked calls and the extra budget goes toward people who book and qualify. A $4 lead that never books, never shows and never buys isn't cheap, because it's also teaching Meta to find you more people just like it.
FAQ
Is the Conversions API the same as the Meta pixel?
No. The pixel fires from the browser when someone loads a page or clicks a button. The Conversions API sends events from your server or CRM, which is how you report something that happens later, like an application passing your qualification bar and booking a call.
What if I don't have enough volume to optimize for qualified booked calls?
Optimize one stage earlier and qualify by hand. Grow into the qualified booked call event once you're generating enough of them each week to feed it.
