Ad Creative
An ad creative is one individual ad a person sees: the script, visuals and format that carry one angle to one persona. A re-edit of the same footage is not a new ad creative.
What counts as a new ad creative?
A net new, individualized ad. That means going back to the numbers behind the last ad and changing something that matters to the buyer: the script, the callout to the persona, or a more specific sub-angle that talks to a narrower slice of the audience. Re-editing footage you recorded six months ago and relaunching it at the same personas doesn't count, and neither does bolting 30 different hooks onto one creative. Since Meta's Andromeda update, ads with the same hook, body, CTA and message read as overlapping, and your CPMs go up.
What are the parts of an ad creative?
Two levers. The angle is the persona, their situation and the problem your offer solves for them. The format is the style it's shot in: direct to camera, selfie video, carousel, B-roll, skit or static. Test the angle first, because the angle decides who stops scrolling. Once an angle wins, new formats are how you get more out of it.
How many ad creatives do you need?
It depends on the budget behind each angle. These are the counts I use in my accounts:
| Budget | Ads to launch |
|---|---|
| Ad set at about $100 a day | 5 to 10 per angle |
| Total spend up to $1,000 a day | 20 to 30 new ads a week |
| $1,000 a day behind one angle | 50 to 100 per angle |
Volume is speed. Launching 50 ads in a week gets you the learning that 10 ads a week would give you five weeks later. On a smaller budget, go deeper on quality with fewer ads, because each one needs enough spend to tell you something. For accounts at the scaling stage, 20 to 30 net new creatives a week is the bare minimum I hold clients to.
Do static ads count as ad creatives?
Yes, if they're genuinely good, and they're a cheap way to test angles early. I run video and statics at the same time and let cost per booked call pick the winner. If you sell B2B or info products, expect to need video eventually, because cold traffic has never heard of you and a well-edited video builds the credibility a static can't.
FAQ
Can AI make my ad creatives?
AI can speed up parts of production, but an ad workflow made entirely of AI-generated ads isn't something I'd expect to carry an account right now. Use AI inside the process, not as the process.
Is a new hook a new ad creative?
Not on its own. A new hook on the same body and message is still the same idea, so Meta treats it as overlapping. A new creative changes the script, the persona callout or the angle.
